Welcome back to 3 Things! Today we’ve got a conversation with Adam Grant – an organizational psychologist who’s been recognized as one of the world’s 10 most influential management thinkers. His new book – Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don’t Know – is about questioning assumptions, viewing life as a series of experiments, and training your mind to be more open. He also shares the secret to “reasoning with unreasonable people” – or, how to disagree more productively.

This is 3 Things.

3 Things I Learned

1) Approach your beliefs with an open mind. If we’re willing to have an open mind and reconsider our beliefs, by definition, we will be more likely and willing to change our minds.

2) Humility is a superpower. Having humility not only makes us more approachable, more likable, and easier for others to follow, it also makes us more likely to change our minds.

3) Empathy is a powerful tool. If empathy can bring opposites like the Yankees and Red Sox together, imagine what empathy can do for society as we try to tackle polarizing issues like racial injustice, inequity, or religious-based issues.
